Is my spouse having an online affair?

Marital infidelity is hardly a new occurrence. However, many people conduct affairs completely online now, via social media sites or by chatting with potential paramours on websites. If you suspect your partner is having an online affair, Live About recommends looking for the following signs.

Secrecy surrounding digital accounts

While it's not necessarily odd to password-protect devices and digital accounts, sudden changes in protections could signal infidelity. A cheating spouse may also exhibit suspicious behavior when it comes to online use. For example, your mate may close browser windows and tabs suddenly when you enter a room. You may also find that web history is cleared every time he or she uses a shared PC. While privacy is important to many people, married couples must have mutual trust to ensure a good relationship.

Insistence on responding to notifications

Being glued to a mobile device is certainly not uncommon. It doesn't always signal infidelity either, but many people carrying on digital affairs will be quick to answer texts and emails as soon as they're received. If your spouse is suddenly sending a lot more correspondence than usually, it's natural to be suspicious. This sign is particularly incriminating when combined with other indications.

Hidden social media accounts or email addresses

There are very few valid reasons why your spouse would keep an online identity a secret. You expect to be part of your spouse's social network and failure to be included naturally invites a lot of questions and suspicions. Regardless of the underlying reason or explanation, it's important to get to the bottom of all hidden identities as soon as possible. If you discover infidelity, whether it's online or in real life, speak with a divorce lawyer right away.
